The theme of the special edition of The Vancouver Sun this past weekend was "Educating the Heart," a catalogue of mostly good news and good works: youth activism, global organizations addressing the plight of the poor and oppressed, spiritual travel based on inner journeys, alternative health, animal rights, ethical business, and a focus on whether and how values of kindness and peace can permeate society. Reading this paper was not boring, as so many do-gooder publications tend to be, and left me in a quiet calm instead of the usual anxiety I feel after reading the usual news. The medium was certainly the message.

Polls Show Approval For Humanitarian Visit By Dalai Lama
Taipei, Taiwan, 3 September 2009 (Central News Agency) - Over three fourths of the Taiwan people supported the visit by the Tibetan spiritual leader Dalai Lama to pray for the hundreds of victims of Typhoon Morakot and their survivors, according to an opinion poll conducted by the opposition Democratic Progressive Party. Although the ceremony officially started at 9:30am, many people began lining up on Monday night and by 9am the stadium was packed.

Dalai Lama Offers Prayers

As a fellow Buddhist, I would like to once again appeal to the Burmese authorities to show magnanimity and understanding by releasing her. Climate Change Worries Dalai Lama

China Fails To Win Minorities' Trust: Dalai Lama

His Holiness the Dalai Lama in Paris
Paris, France, 6 June 2009 - His Holiness Dalai Lama arrived in Paris this morning. At Charles de Gaulle airport, he was welcomed by representatives of the Mayoral Authority of Paris, the Embassy of India, the Tibetan community in France, Dagpo Rinpoche and Pema Wangyal Rinpoche whose Dharma centres have participated in the organisation of the visit. H.H. the Dalai Lama's First Ever Visit To Iceland Concludes

Dalai Lama meets with Danish Media and MPs
Copenhagen, Denmark, 30 May 2009 (tibet.net) - His Holiness the Dalai Lama at the outset of giving teachings based on Nagarjuna's Commentary on Bodhicitta (Jangchum Semdrel) and Kalalashila's The Middle Stages of Meditation (Gomrim Barpa), told the audience of 3,600 people who had come to hear his teachings that he does not believe in conversion and therefore never tries to convert anyone to the Buddhist faith.
